Week 1 - Welcome to Dream Enkoure!
Hello everyone and thanks for your interest in Dream Enkoure!
Even though the demo has only been uploaded last week, I've been working in this project for over a year - around November 2022 if memory servers right -, focusing on polishing and developing basic systems until I feel I could move onward with creating the finalized content - no more test builds!
While Dream Enkoure is my second project, it is the first time I take full responsability for all facets of game development - except the part where I'm using Godot Engine. From sound effects to visuals, translation and code, Dream Enkoure is a project I'm putting 120% of my passion on. Lofty ideal I know. As such, please feel free to share any thoughts you have about the game!
Starting this week I've been keeping a list with to-dos and changes to the game. For the first few weeks they might come as nonsensical as they'll cover elements I've not spoken or shared, but my intentio nis to share these lists weekly as both, motivate mself to keep going, and keep everyone up to date.
Without further ado -
Week 1 Changes
Started Act 1 level design
Grass Animation for Mountain tileset has been updated (replaced with semisolid's animation)
Plains bat no longer applies "Faia" state upon impact with forward dash.
Tanktoise hovers when on water. Further behavior changes to be studied.
Tanktoise now properly turns over when hovering over water.
Water body tiles updated. Visual change.
On level design philosophy:
On my previous project, The Coil of Possiblity, I put core emphasys on exploration. Even thought Dream Enkoure is a more traditional platforming experience, I still believe in exploration as a concept, and thus I'm designing levels with the idea of allowing some moderate ammount of roaming. I still need to come to a conclusion to how large each level needs to be, but the first chunk for Act 1 is finalized at least. Ultimately the goal is to reach the endpoint of the level, while avoid funneling the player through very specific pathways.
I recieved a lot of feedback regarding the difficulty of the test builds during the previous year, so idecided to keep the tutorial area exclusively based around mechanical execution - controlling the player character that is. But there's still more to see. :)
See you next week!
